Probate administration is the court process of appointing a personal representative and supervising the settlement of a decedent’s estate. In Kentucky, this work is handled in District Court. Whether there is a will (testate) or no will (intestate), the personal representative’s job is to collect assets, pay legitimate obligations, and distribute the remainder according to the will or Kentucky’s intestacy statutes.

- Prepare and file the petition to open probate.
- Assist with qualification, including the oath or declaration and a bond when the court requires one, and with letters.
- Prepare inventories, accountings, and distribution pleadings.
- Coordinate notices to interested parties and known creditors.
- Advise on timing for claims, sales of property, and closing.
